Just after recovering from illness, Shahela Begum came to fetch water from a water-carrying lorry of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) at Senpara, Mirpur in the city.The woman in her 55s waited around two hour in a queue and finally managed a bucket of water for her six-member family with the help of a neighbor. But a bucket of water is too inadequate for her family."I've come here after three days of illness ignoring the advice of doctor. I've no alternative way as five of my daughters are working in garments factories," said Shahela, who also recovered from brain stork one year ago.More..........

Bangladesh should have enough fire-fighting equipment
Equipment of Bangladesh fire service and civil defense should be increased and up to date.
City dwellers want the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence’s equipments to be up to date with adequate fire-fighting tools, and also want the buildings’ owners to have their own fire-fprotecting systems and well trained manpower to prevent any further fire disaster.
People from all walks of life told Top Bd News of their concern at the lack of adequate logistics for the fire service and poor fire monitoring system by the concerned authorities.
They also wanted proper implementation of the rules and regulations and regular fire drills in all the high-rise buildings and other commercial establishments in the capital. They called for prompt action by the government and creation of awareness among the buildings’ owners to prevent disastrous fires like those in Bashundhara City and BSEC Bhaban. More........
