Gold Measurement

Gold is measured in troy ounces, often simply referred to as ounce when the reference to gold is evident. One troy ounce is equivalent to 31.1034768 grams.

The much more commonly used avoirdupois ounce is used for measuring weights in most situation in daily life in countries using imperial measures, an avoirdupois ounce is lighter than a troy ounce; One avoirdupois ounce = 28.349523125 grams.

The standard gold bar held and traded internationally by central banks and bullion dealers is the Good Delivery bar with a 400 oz. nominal weight. However, its precise gold content is permitted to vary between 350 oz and 430 oz.

Purity: The minimum purity required is 99.5% gold. These bars must be stored in recognized and secure gold bullion vaults to maintain their quality status of Good Delivery. The recorded provenance of this bar assures integrity and maximum resale value.

Measurement Scale:

• One tonne = 1000 kilograms = 32,150.746 troy ounces.
• One kilogram = 1000 grams = 32.15074656 troy ounces.
• One tola/Vorry = 11.6638038 grams.
• One tael = 37.429 grams.
• TT (Ten Tola) = 117 grams (3.75 oz)

Tola/Vorry is a traditional Indian measure for the weight of gold and prevalent to this day. Many international gold manufacturers supply tola bars of 999.96 purity.

Just after recovering from illness, Shahela Begum came to fetch water from a water-carrying lorry of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) at Senpara, Mirpur in the city.The woman in her 55s waited around two hour in a queue and finally managed a bucket of water for her six-member family with the help of a neighbor. But a bucket of water is too inadequate for her family."I've come here after three days of illness ignoring the advice of doctor. Bangladesh should have enough fire-fighting equipment

Equipment of Bangladesh fire service and civil defense should be increased and up to date.

City dwellers want the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence’s equipments to be up to date with adequate fire-fighting tools, and also want the buildings’ owners to have their own fire-fprotecting systems and well trained manpower to prevent any further fire disaster.
People from all walks of life told Top Bd News of their concern at the lack of adequate logistics for the fire service and poor fire monitoring system by the concerned authorities.
They also wanted proper implementation of the rules and regulations and regular fire drills in all the high-rise buildings and other commercial establishments in the capital. They called for prompt action by the government and creation of awareness among the buildings’ owners to prevent disastrous fires like those in Bashundhara City and BSEC Bhaban. More........
